Kapha "Retreat" to bring Vata into balance
I've been underweight since birth (I'm 38). Ayurveda illuminated why gaining weight and feeling grounded has been so challenging for me – I barely knew what being grounded meant, having rarely experienced it.
I now understand that reaching a healthy weight isn't just about numbers; it's about cultivating stable energy and deep calm. Without this foundation, I won't be able to live my life to the fullest and honor my mission(s). And by "fullest," I don't mean pursuing overstimulating activities – quite the opposite. I mean simply living my life with presence and purpose.
With that in mind, I'm temporarily stepping back from mental work – no content creation, YouTube channel management, book writing, studying, or consuming media information.
What I'm embracing:
- Daily self-massage (abhyanga)
- Yoga nidra
- Gentle movement: slow dancing, Qi Gong
- Gentle weight lifting at the gym (3x/week)
- Emotional nourishment through connection:
- Writing letters
- Meeting friends (2-3x/week, mostly one-on-one)
- Sending love audio messages
- Sharing inspiration
- Offering free holistic consultations to students (in-person only)
- Spending more time out of the house → doing above activities in public spaces as much as possible
- Intentionally creating space for casual encounters with new people, like in the old days
Gentle entertainment allowance & screen time rules:
- one episode of feel-good shows (currently enjoying Alf) per day
- one film per week
- maximum 2 hours per day of mindful screen time
- 15-min movement breaks every 40 minutes
